Find an eye doctor near you. When selecting the best eye doctor in your area, there are a number of factors to consider. You want one that is affordable and has a good reputation. A doctor that is referred to by a friend or family may work out well. That way you know that he/she has done satisfactory work. You can feel a little more assurance knowing that your family/friends have gone to this particular doctor and have had a good enough experience to give him/her a reference.
Health insurance may cover certain areas for eye care. But it may not cover everything. Check to see what your health insurance will cover. If it does not cover all of your eye care needs, you will want to find out the costs for your visits. Affordability is an important factor to consider when choosing the right doctor.
Do a background check on your doctor. If he/she has any malpractice suits, find out why. You want to limit and/or avoid doctors that have a bad reputation for such things. Find out things where they went to school, how long they have been practicing, etc. Experience is important. You might prefer someone with years or experience over somebody who just graduated.

However, often times you will find an optician working with an optometrist in fitting you for glasses, contacts, or sunglasses. They might be there to assist optometrists during eye exams.
